When it's serious, go to the hospital?

Your general practitioner or specialist will determine whether you need to go to a hospital. If necessary, they will arrange for you to be admitted to a hospital. In an emergency, the ambulance service will take you immediately to the nearest hospital. For a scheduled outpatient appointment at the hospital, you will need a medical referral.

What is a lead hospital?

A lead hospital is being established for each region of Styria. Previously, only a few specialties could be offered at smaller locations. In the future, the larger lead hospitals will consolidate more knowledge and experience under one roof. Lead hospitals have highly trained medical staff with experience and routine. This further improves the quality of treatment.

An example

Michaela (35 years old) from Mosern falls while skiing at Loser. She has severe pain in her right leg and cannot get up. Her friend, who is with her, calls for emergency help. The emergency physician provides initial care at the accident site. Depending on the severity of her injury, Michaela will be transported to the hospital in Schladming, Bruck, or Graz. In the future, the new lead hospital for the Liezen district will also be available for care. There, Michaela's leg will be X-rayed and treated according to the severity of the injury. This could be a cast, for example, or surgery may be necessary.
